The Taber Hill Mansion in Stowe, Vermont

Updated: Jun 19, 2023

This job is a gateway to see some pretty incredible homes. The Taber Hill Mansion in Stowe did not disappoint. I only had one day to photograph here, but could have easily spent a whole week discovering the precise angles and times to photograph and all the hidden details in the building, the grounds, + it's hidden passages (really!).

To give you an idea of the space from Landvest's home listing in 2021.

"A rare offering in Seven Springs. Perched above Stowe Village with Mansfield views on 6.01 acres, this stunning historic Georgian Revival residence offers a Vermont lifestyle unlike any other. Over 10,000 sf of living space includes 6 bedrooms, 10 baths, 13 fireplaces, formal and informal spaces, a chef's kitchen, new cherry mudroom, an incredible finished lower level that is sure to please - all surrounded by gorgeous gardens, a brick terrace with built-in grill, lawns bordered by extensive stonewalls and iron fencing, and a gazebo to enjoy the view. There is also a one bedroom apartment above the attached heated 2 car garage and an octagonal storage shed up the wooded path overlooking the spring fed pond."

c.1861. 10,088 square feet. 7 bedrooms 7 full baths 3 half baths on 6.01 acres!

I met Jayla from Atlas Vacations through a mutual friend, and had worked with her on a few projects before the Taber Hill Mansion. Photographing a space like this is every photographer's dream, and I was so excited and ready to take on the challenge.

Photographing interiors might not seem hard, but you have to tell the story of a space that has no moving parts; no people, no facial expressions, no real movement. Lighting, composition, and exposures aside, it's my job to make this place come alive, to give life and character to inanimate objects and spaces. And I think I nailed it with this gig.

Styling and furniture was brought in by Stowe Living. They set a stunning scene in the home's wine-cellar, brought in contemporary-modern furniture that accented the homes antiques so well, and they also set up a gorgeous outdoor family style table for twilight hour. The attention to detail that went into setting this shoot up was impeccable, and the stellar outcome would not have been possible without this amazing team of professionals (and all women, might I add!).

The shoot took the better part of a 10 hour work day with a brief rest period while we waited to see when (and if) we would get a twilight hour. The forecast in Stowe was overcast with some bouts of light rain all day, so if the sun would come out to play was anyone's guess. But Vermont delivered, like she does so many times on story days, with the most beautiful pink sunset that led into the most spectacular twilight hour.

It was a long day of hard work, but in the end I think our efforts paid off. So without further ado, here is the entire set of images for the Taber Hill Mansion in Stowe, Vermont.
